The term “generation” refers to the CPU’s age. The number after the (-) (hyphen) will be the generation of your laptop’s processor.

Method 2. Check Laptop Generation in Windows via Task Manager

Windows 11’s Task Manager shows detailed CPU information like the generation and many more things, too. Right-click your taskbar and select “Task Manager” or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to launch it. Click the “Performance” tab and select “CPU.” The name and speed of your computer’s CPU appear here.

  • Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
  • Navigate to the Performance tab and then select CPU.
  • The number after the (-) (hyphen) will be the generation of your laptop’s processor. In our case, it’s the 11th.

Method 3. Find the Generation of a Laptop with CMD (Command Prompt)

The Command Prompt is abbreviated as CMD. The command-line interpreter of Windows operating systems is known as CMD. It’s comparable to the “MS-DOS Prompt” from Command.com, which is used in DOS and Windows 9x computers. It’s similar to Unix Shells, which are used on Unix-like systems. The command prompt is a built-in feature of the Windows operating system that allows users to run commands to execute tasks.

  • Open Command Prompt.
  • Type the following command and then press enter:

wmic

  • Once again type the following command and press enter:

cpu get name

Here, you can check all the information related to your processor. Remember that, the number after the hyphen (-) will be your laptop’s generation.
